i’m not everyone’s cup of tea.

just be you.

Something that I have learned as I’m getting older is that not everyone I meet is going to like me. I have always been a “people
pleaser,” changing who I was to make sure whomever I was with liked me. Why? That’s a great question. I think that a majority of it is wanting to fit in/be accepted.

In high school, I wasn’t one of the “cool kids,” I wasn’t a nerd, I wasn’t much of an athlete. I was just me. I pretty much got along with anyone; which is a good trait to have. However, after graduating high school and getting into the “real world,” you start to really figure out who you are; and I’m continually learning more about myself.

After a few draped dates, some awkward encounters with strangers, uncomfortable meetings with
people; I just realized that I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. And I’m fine with it. I can be weird. I can be annoying. I can be needy. I can be distant. I can talk a lot. I can sit in quiet. But I’m not going to change who I am just to make one person like me. I know that my personality is sometimes hard to get along with, my sense of humor might not be funny to you, my interests aren’t the same as yours. And you know what? That’s completely fine. I am who I am.

I do question my friends’ sanity though. Haha! I know dealing with me can be quite a challenge. So, I want to also say thank you to those that have been with me through a lot. Y’all have no idea what it actually means to me.

Go out there and be you. You don’t have to get along with everyone you meet. Get along with yourself and you’ll be doing alright!

As Kacey Musgraves says, “You can’t always be everybody’s cup of tea.”
